The Red Devils end City's winning run with a superb derby display.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his delight with how his Red Devils sealed a 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad.

City were stunned early in the Manchester Derby as United were awarded a penalty after only 34 seconds when Gabriel Jesus carelessly brought down Anthony Martial in the box.

And Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes finished off the spot-kick to give United a good start to the game.

England defender Luke Shaw doubled the lead a few minutes into the second half with a low shot.

Pep Guardiola's side dominated the majority of the game, got chances through Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling but both players failed to convert as United held on and saw out the game.

"When you come away with a 2-0 win and another clean sheet and a performance like this then you are delighted,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

"Every game is different. We went back to be a little bit what we wanted to be and that's being direct. That was the Anthony Martial of old. Until two hours before warm-up, I wasn't sure if he'd play. Today, he rediscovered himself. He was really strong on the ball and very positive.

"We had to defend well. No team in the world of football has a chance against Manchester City without being collective.

"Dean Henderson is getting more mature. I'm very happy with him."

On closing the gap between them and Manchester City, the Norwegian replied: "No, we just take one game time. They are too far ahead to think we can catch them. They have been excellent. Even today they put you under so much pressure."
