An excited Erling Haaland was pleased to score his first Premier League goal in Manchester City’s win over West Ham United on Sunday.

The Norwegian, who sealed a move from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad, scored a double to hand the English champions a 2-0 win over the Hammers on Sunday.

The 22-year-old striker broke the deadlock when from the penalty spot, nine minutes before half-time after he was brought down by substitute goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who replaced the injured Lukasz Fabianski.

And in the 65th minute, Haaland wrapped up City's win with a tremendous left-foot strike following a through pass from Belgium midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne.

After the game at the Olympic Stadium, Haaland said the Cityzens should have scored more goals against David Moyes’ team.

'Should have been more'

The City striker told Sky Sports: "It was good. [It was a] good start there is nothing much to say other than that and it was 2-0. Good to get some minutes in the legs early in the season and we have to keep going.

"As expected we saw the potential against Bayern [Munich in pre-season] and it was a bit down against Liverpool. It will come with games, it should have been more today.

On if he could have scored more: “Yes. I should have been there [to connect with Ilkay Gundogan’s cross]. It’s about the connections we do every day in training and practicing so we get better and this will come.

“There were some good celebrations so I’m happy. Nice that he [Dad – Alfie] saw both goals as it is a big moment for me as a debutant in this competition.

“Also now it is almost 30 minutes since I scored the last goal so I have to keep going.”

Haaland became the first player to score a penalty on his Premier League debut since Jorginho for Chelsea back in August 2018.
