The Red Devils showed their superiority in the game against the Seagulls.
Mason Greenwood continued his meteoric rise on Tuesday night as he registered his 13th goal of the season.
The Red Devils were looking sharp from the get go and showed how much they wanted the win by being clinical on the night.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased with the “exceptional” football his side played against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night.
The Norwegian described Mason Greenwood as a very “special kid” after the United youngster helped his side secure a 3-0 win against the Seagulls.
United were looking sharp from the get go and were determined to secure the victory on the road as Greenwood broke the deadlock with a close-range strike in the 16th minute, the 18-year-old’s 13th goal of the campaign.
The away side continued to dominate the game and showed they really wanted all three points as January signing Bruno Fernandes scored a brace to make it 3-0.
The comfortable victory at the American Express Community Stadium meant United closed the gap on fourth place Chelsea to two points.
All in all, the Man Utd boss hailed Greenwood, saying the special kid is ‘developing into a fine player’.
Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “The boys played some exceptional stuff. Mason's first goal was brilliant and he played fantastically. He's a special kid, we know when he gets faced up he looks dangerous. His link-up play was great today.
“He's got a knack of that, he can go inside or outside, he is developing into a fine player. We know we have pace and we want to counter quickly, it was a fantastic goal [the third goal], we are very happy with it.”
He added: “I don't care about making a statement, I know we are a good team. We will recover and then focus on the next one.” Speaking to BBC Sport, the Norwegian said: “They have reason to be confident because they are playing fantastically. There is quality in that team, our players are fit and we have competition for places now.
“We know Mason Greenwood can score goals like this but he is getting stronger, lockdown helped him. He had time to fill out and you can see the benefit from it. He will be exciting to follow.
“I've got more than one gamechanger, we have some top players and Bruno has come and been fantastic. He has brought that winning mentality with him, that 99% is not good enough - it has to be 100%.”
