Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal praised Ashley Young and says the Reds winger is the kind of player he likes to work with.
Young has been great for United since Louis van Gaal took charge in the summer and on Wednesday night, the no.18 secured the winner for the Red Devils as his 89th minute goal against the Magpies meant Man United left St James' Park with three points.
And Van Gaal, who was overly excited with the late goal heaped praise on Young as the Dutchman believes the 29-year-old fits the mould.
“He is a player who wants to perform what you say. I think he fits good in my profile,” the Old Trafford boss told MUTV.
“We have played also with wing-backs and I think that is his best position. Now I use him as a winger and he does a very good job. I am pleased with him.”
The win over Newcastle United meant Van Gaal's side stay in the final Champions-League spot, two points above bitter rivals Liverpool who have found form recently but the former Ajax and Barcelona coach is confident the Reds are progressing in the right direction.
“We are progressing still, which is why I was pleased with the performance [on Wednesday] as it was a better way of playing,” he added.
“I was not pleased that we didn't score from [some of] the chances but okay, it's going well. We didn't lose unnecessary balls, or not as many as before. I was pleased with our composure on the ball."
