Juan Mata has issued a rallying cry ahead of the coming season after admitting that Manchester United were not good enough in the 2018-19 campaign.
The midfielder is hoping United, who finished sixth in the Premier League table without a trophy for the second season in a row, improve and compete.
"We know that last season wasn't good enough. So, we need to improve, we need to try our best in this upcoming season," Mata, who signed a new two-year deal in June with the option to extend for a further year, said at a sponsor event in Singapore as the Daily Mail quoted.
"What we have to do is raise our level and compete and let's see where we end up.
"The level in the Premier League is getting better every single year. All the clubs have been bringing very good players. So, we need to try to be at our best."
Mata has scored 45 goals in 218 appearances since joining Manchester United in 2014.
