Manchester City are overpaying for Sterling, says former Liverpool striker.

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Manchester City over the £49m transfer of 20-year-old Raheem Sterling, subject to a medical.

Both parties involved finally came to an agreement after two bids from City in June were rejected and former Reds striker says Manuel Pellegrini's side will be overpaying if they splash £49m pounds on the England winger.

"It's best that the club moves on and the player moves on," the Liverpool legend told Sky Sports News HQ. "What's gone on before today hasn't been nice from the Liverpool Football Club point of view or from a fans' point of view. I'm just glad the saga is done and dusted with now.

"Liverpool have got a very, very good offer. £49m is a lot of money for the lad and overpriced in my opinion. QPR will get 20% of that, which people have got to bear in mind. It's a really good deal for Liverpool."

Sterling will become the most expensive English player ever once the deal is completed.
