Varane Header Seals Narrow win for Man Utd Against Resilient Wolves
Manchester United held firm against relentless Wolves as they secured a fortunate 1-0 Premier League win. Despite Wolves' numerous missed opportunities, Raphael Varane's late goal proved decisive
Wolves showcased a spirited performance despite recent off-field changes, creating chances through Sarabia and Cunha. However, Cunha's shocking miss from close range exemplified their profligacy. Although Wolves dominated, they couldn't find the net.
Late on, Varane capitalised on Sa's mistake, heading into an empty goal. Wolves persisted, with Silva's shot saved by Onana. A potential penalty was overturned by VAR, leaving United relieved.
Following the game, Erik ten Hag told BBC Sport about his Red Devils' performance on Monday night: "We can play better.
"It can be better. We can play better. But we're very pleased with the win. The opposition were dynamic. We have to match that. We had to fight for our points.
"There is no easy game in the Premier League, and definitely not Wolves. They're a tough team, and we did really well. You have to fight in every game. We hope we'll be better on the ball in the next game."
When asked about Andre Onana's display, he affirmed: "He made very good saves, was very calm, and had a very good debut. After the opponent touched the ball, he dived in, so it was the officials' judgment, and luckily for us, no penalty. I think you can debate it, but I think no penalty."
He also praised midfielder Mason Mount: "Good performance. He did what we expected him to do. He had a very good level in the game."
