Manchester United transfer policy different from Sir Alex Ferguson's era.

The Red Devils secured the services of Anthony Martial from Ligue 1 side Monaco on the last day of the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £36m, and the Daily Mirror’s football writer Darren Lewis believes Manchester United paid far too much for the French youngster.

“I don’t think it’s a risk, as such, but they have massively overpaid for a player who has scored 13 goals at Monaco," he said while speaking on Sunday Supplement (a Sunday morning television programme about football broadcast on Sky Sports 1).

“It’s an incredible amount of money to pay for a player who has done so little in his career.

“It’s the signing that encapsulates the scattergun approach to their spending, their approach to the window under Ed Woodward we would have not have seen under Sir Alex and David Gill.”
