Former defender Paul McGrath believes Manchester United are certain to finish in the top four following their 3-0 victory over Tottenham.
The Red Devils went into the match with serious questions about their Champions League credentials, but blitzed the north London side with a superb first-half showing.
Louis van Gaal’s side face Liverpool on Sunday and ex-Old Trafford favourite McGrath insists his former side will beat the Reds to a place at Europe’s top table next season.
United are currently fourth in the table, five points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool, but the Reds will close the gap with victory against Swansea on Monday night.
“Liverpool are the only team who can do a bit of damage to Manchester United,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “I don’t see it happening now though.
“United are clicking into gear at the right time and are relaxed in the way they’re playing their football.”
Marouane Fellaini, a much maligned figure during David Moyes’ spell as manager, has shone this season and capped a good spell in the side with a goal against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
And, with Robin van Persie set to return from injury next month, McGrath claims the Dutchman will have a fight on his hands to replace the former Everton man.
“Marouane Fellaini is the fulcrum of the side now,” he added. “I don’t think Van Gaal can take him out of the side.
“Robin [van Persie] is going to have a little bit of a problem himself. He wasn’t playing brilliantly before he got injured.
“Fellaini gives them the option of going long, he can hold it up and bring other players into play. He is giving the whole team a great lift.”
