Brazilian Forward Signs Long-Term Deal At Old Trafford
There’s a new face in red at Old Trafford, and for Matheus Cunha, it’s not just a transfer, it’s the fulfilment of a childhood dream.
Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of the 26-year-old Brazil international from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Cunha has signed a deal that runs until June 2030, with the option of an extra year.
“I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was a kid watching Premier League games at my grandma’s house in Brazil,” Cunha shared. “United were always my team in England. I honestly can’t describe what it means to finally wear this shirt.”
Early Business In A Busy Summer
United’s transfer team moved swiftly to secure Cunha’s signature – a sign of intent after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw the club finish 15th in the Premier League and lose the Europa League final to Spurs, missing out on Champions League football once again.
“Bringing in Matheus was one of our top priorities,” said new director of football Jason Wilcox. “He’s already shown his quality in the Premier League and abroad – quick, clever, hard-working, and hungry to make an impact. That’s exactly what we want.”
Cunha’s energetic, creative playing style made him a standout at Wolves, and before that, in spells with Atlético Madrid and Hertha Berlin. His ability to press, dribble, and connect play has drawn comparisons to some of United’s past fan favourites, and his arrival is clearly part of a wider rebuild under Ruben Amorim.
Eyes On Pre-Season And Proving His Worth
“I can’t wait for pre-season,” Cunha said. “It’s a fresh start – for me and for the club. I’m focused on becoming a key part of this team and doing my part to help bring Manchester United back to where it belongs.”
After one of their worst league finishes in modern history, United will be hoping Cunha can add a much-needed spark in attack. With youth, energy, and a serious point to prove, he fits the new profile being shaped by Amorim and Wilcox.
Cunha becomes the club’s first major signing of the summer – but don’t expect him to be the last. If United are serious about climbing back up the table, this needs to be just the beginning.
