Wolfsberger 1-4 Tottenham

Tottenham beat Wolfsberger 4-1 on Thursday night as they put one foot into the last 16 of the Europa League competition, and Jose Mourinho was happy his Lillywhites ' had good control of the game.'

Son Heung-min, Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura, and Carlos Vinicius were all on target for Jose Mourinho's Lilywhites who were ruthless on the night, scoring three goals in the first-half of the match.

And, the north London club were without Harry Kane, who didn’t travel with the team to Budapest.

Son broke the deadlock in 13th-minute with a close-range header as he finished off Gareth Bale’s cross into the far corner, and the Welshman doubled the lead with a superb strike just before the half-hour.

This was before Brazil winger Lucas Moura made it 3-0 with a sublime solo effort in the 34th minute, putting Spurs in full control.

Michael Liendl gave Wolfsberger hope early in the second half as he scored from the penalty spot after Moussa Sissoko brought down Christopher Wernitznig in the 18-yard box.

Vinicius tapped in from close range late on to make it 4-1 and after the victory, Mourinho admitted that he was pleased to see his team play with ambition on the night.

The Portuguese coach told BT Sport: "We had to come and play with ambition which we did. The score should have been more than 3-0 at half-time.

"In the second half we made that mistake that gave them life. There were some similarities with Everton. If you’re in control and make a mistake you give the opposition life and the game can change. In here it didn’t change. But the 3-2 was not far from happening.

"We had good control of the game. Lots of chances. I believe the last goal put almost a period on this tie. 4-1 away is a very good result.

"I don’t consider this an incredible victory, just a good victory that brings good feelings. By flying back the plane will be a different plane than after a defeat. Tomorrow morning in training, the same.

"We managed to rest a few players by not playing them 90 minutes - like Sonny only playing 45 minutes at 3-0."
