FT: Man City 5-0 Burnley.
Manchester City bounced back to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admits that “it was important to come back with victory in the Premier League” after their 2-0 loss to Jose Mourinho’s Spurs last weekend.
The Cityzens thrashed Burnley 5-0 at the Etihad stadium on Saturday afternoon, thanks to goals from defender Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres as well as a hat-trick from Riyad Mahrez.
The victory was Burnley’s fourth successive 5-0 loss at the Etihad and Guardiola was pleased his side scored more goals today compared to their previous league fixtures this season.
"It was important to come back with a victory in the Premier League. One more game,” the Spaniard said after the emphatic victory against the Clarets.
"We play a lot of games so to play 90 minutes and maintain a good level is not easy but there are always things to improve on.
"It's important for our people to score goals and it is a chance for them to keep playing."
When asked why Argentina striker Sergio Aguero missed the match, Guardiola asserted: "Sometimes it is just a reaction on the knee. It is swollen. Hopefully tomorrow he can come back to training.
"Now it is three days then another one. We have to travel and prepare fully."
On the return of fans to the stadium, he replied: "If the politicians and scientists decide that is allowed, hopefully, it is a good decision.
