Per Mertesacker: We must learn quickly after Sunday's defeat.

Germany international Per Mertesacker said Arsenal need to learn quickly after Chelsea`s 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Eden Hazard gave the Blues the lead in the 27th minute netting a penalty after he was brought down by Laurent Koscielny in the 18-yard-box.

The former Arsenal captain Cesc Fàbregas later assisted Diego Costa with a sublime upheaved pass in the 78th minute as the striker scored his 9th Premier League goal in seven appearances.

Sunday`s loss was Arsenal`s first defeat of the 2014/15 campaign and Mertesacker wants the Gunners to learn quickly.

“We were more competitive than last year but overall we have to admit we were good but not good enough in certain areas, particularly the final third,” Per Mertesacker said.

“We had a couple of decent possibilities, but we could not find the final pass or touch.

“We defended better, but they are still better and we have to learn quickly.
