This season, has been a solid display from Manchester United under the guidance of the ever controversial Jose Mourinho. A Europa League victory looks the most likely form of gaining Champions League qualification; they have won the Community Shield and the EFL Cup and still are in contention to finish in the top four of the Barclays Premier League.
The performances produced by the team for the most has been unspectacular however, and despite having a rich amount of talent at his disposal Mourinho doesn’t quite know his best system and his strongest starting eleven.
The signing of the iconic Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been massive for the team as without the charismatic Swede this current Manchester United team would look like an average team within the Premier League. World record signing Paul Pogba hasn’t quite worked out despite the occasional games where he looks like he can be a world beater, playing within the right system.
The biggest issue when observing this current Manchester United team is not so much the players and the quality they possess but it would be the manager and how he has been accustomed to do his job for so many years.
This Manchester United team does not possess the characters and the players Mourinho has been used to working with. This is a younger group than Mourinho is used to, and does not possess the experience that Mourinho has had notably at Chelsea but also during his time at Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

The list of under-achievers this season at Old Trafford would be quite long, however the blame can’t all be put down to the player. When you see the transfer rumours already for the summer, it is the first thought especially for young players not to join Manchester United this would halt their development straight away as Mourinho does not have a very good record when it comes to working with younger players.
Names such as Gianluigi Donnarumma, Kylian Mbappé and Kieran Tiernay should be discouraged from joining Old Trafford under the guidance of Mourinho.
When talking about names that would leave Manchester United this summer, some names will be clearer than others, Wayne Rooney for one has been totally dismissed by Mourinho and his future at the club now looks over, but when talking about players developing has Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford developed this season, the answer is no.
Both players were the breakthrough stars last season at Old Trafford and because of the style of play United play under Mourinho both players would do well to get moves out of Old Trafford, they both want to play as central strikers yet are played out the left hand side of an attack with defensive duties added to their game.
Anthony Martial would be the player who should be encouraged the most to leave the club this summer, he is often the player of blame when the team misses chances and do not come away from the win in a game, he is a striker playing as wide midfielder the majority of games, not a left forward and the constant dropping from the starting eleven the French international has endured this season is not doing any wonders for his confidence. He would certainly not be short of any offers if his name was to start circulating of an exit from Old Trafford this summer.
The Luke Shaw sage has been one that has created a lot of interest recently. The England star is now twenty one years of age, he has worked himself back after that horrific leg break playing in Europe last season, however he doesn’t look fit and looks out of shape to play at the highest level in a full back position. He is clearly not the first choice left back in the eyes of Mourinho; actually he is fourth choice after recent comments made from the Manchester United manager.
Shaw is a tremendous talent and obviously he has to do the work himself but surely he needs a manager who has some faith in him, will work with him in terms of getting better and perhaps improve him mentally where the problem seems to lie.
Despite his shortcomings at Old Trafford Louis Van Gaal was fantastic for Shaw, working with him, showing faith in him and getting Shaw into shape. Getting out of Old Trafford and away from Mourinho would be the best thing possible to resurrect the English left back’s career.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah is a player who a lot of fans at Manchester United were excited about, he possesses fantastic potential and his versatility should be deemed vital.
This season the nineteen year old has barely had a kick, despite a highly impressive pre-season. Right back seems his best position, his pace and power is quite something for a young man and has fantastic energy. His problem is not so much there is better competition ahead of him it would have to be the manager. Matteo Darmian is the clubs best right back but finds himself playing left back when he does play, another player who should be looking the quickest exit out of Old Trafford.
So that makes Antonio Valencia the player Fosu-Mensah cannot get ahead of in the right back position, Valencia has got better defensively but not so good that such a talent of Fosu-Mensah should be used sparingly. His countryman Daley Blind is another player who should use this summer to get out of Old Trafford, the versatile Dutchman would get into the heart of that Manchester United midfield in most people’s views with his passing range and his ability to step back into the heart of the defence.

Not Mourinho, he plays two guys in Pogba and Herrera who do not have the defensive discipline to play in that role and he also do not have the vision and ability to play passes in the way Daley Blind does.
David De Gea would have to be considered on his way out this summer as his dream move to Real Madrid looks on, and despite being solid this season he has hardly been unspectacular, the biggest hope is that one of the top young talents does not end in between the sticks under Mourinho’s management. It would be more likely Mourinho will look towards Inter Milan’s Samir Handanović or maybe Kasper Schmeichel.
Defender Chris Smalling, who in recent season has been the stand out defender at the club, also looks surplus to requirements this summer and should be trying to force a move from the club, young defensive talent Axel Tuanzebewho was highly regarded under Van Gaal and the youth set up at Manchester United, should also be a name to prize away a move from Old Trafford to in order to regular football and showcase his talent.

Manchester United fans should be looking forward to another summer of spending big money and hopefully see a turnover of players at the club. Mourinho will look for some experienced pro’s to integrate into this current group of players he has, signing any of the big name younger players across Europe should not be on the radar of the club this summer for their own sakes.
