Premier League legend Sheringham applies for Portsmouth manager job.

Premier League hero Teddy Sheringham has applied for the vacant managerial post at Portsmouth, according to the Portsmouth Daily News.

Ex-Pompey striker Sheringham, 49, is currently working as an attacking coach at another of his former clubs, West Ham, and has been instrumental in helping to get the best out of new signings Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia in their first seasons in the Premier League.

But with uncertainty surrounding the future of Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, the former frontman is keen to make a breakthrough into management and reports suggest he would relish the opportunity to make a return to Fratton Park.

Sheringham, who enjoyed prolific spells at Manchester United and Tottenham, played for Portsmouth back in 2003 scoring ten goals in 38 appearances and is believed to be among 60 candidates who have expressed an interest in wanting to take charge of the League Two side.
