Manchester United boss claimed his team deserved a point from their clash against Chelsea following Robin van Persie’s dying minute equaliser at Old Trafford.
Just after the first half ended without a goal, the Blues striker Didier Drogba gave Jose Mourinho's side the lead in 53rd minute when he headed home a corner kick.
Red Devils striker Van Persie levelled the scoreline in the last minute of stoppage time just after Branslav Ivanovic was shown a second yellow card for tripping Angel di Maria.
The 1-1 draw left Manchester United in eighth position in the Premier League table, 10 points behind leaders Chelsea and Louis Van Gaal was happy with the result.
“We kept together and I think we deserved it,” Van Gaal said.
“I have seen that we could have beat Chelsea, I'm saying that nearly every game but this is against Chelsea who are a top team and we were at least equal.
“We had a lot of chances but we don't finish these chances, then Chelsea make the first goal and it becomes much more difficult as Chelsea play possession football, make the pitch big and we have to run and run.
“The most pleasing thing is we are showing again we are believing in making a goal in spite of the result being bad. 1-0 behind it is fantastic the players are running until the 90th minute to equalise or win.”
