Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling has been given time off from football as the 20-year-old heads to Jamaica but Brendan Rodgers says it's only for a few days and Sterling will be available for their next clash against Aston Villa.
Liverpool beat Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday with Sterling off at the Caribbean and Rodgers reckons it was the right time to give the England international a break from the Premier League.
"If we're going to maximise what we can get out of him, then he needs that bit of recovery time," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.
"A period of rest and the recuperation will do him the world of good. It's been a gruelling first half of the season for him with a lot of matches and a lot of work.
“This is the last game he misses. He'll be back in training next week."
