Van Gaal hails Rashford.
Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford as Marcus Rashford's brace and Ander Herrera's deflected volley leaves Arsenal five points off the top of the Premier League table. Louis van Gaal was pleased with his side's all round display when they faced the Gunners on Sunday afternoon and also praised United's youngster who has scored two in four games for the Red Devils.
Rashford scored two goals within three minutes (29' and 32') on his league debut to hand the home side a comfortable lead before Danny Welbeck halved the deficit five minutes before halftime.
Herrera then made it 3-1 in the 65th and Mezut Ozil replied for the Gunners four minutes later, however, Arsenal weren't able to seal a comeback, withUnited landing a massive blow on their title hopes. And after the triumph, Van Gaal said the 18-year-old is a special talent when asked about Rashford’s beautiful start to his United career.
“That is why we have a small selection because then you can give youngsters a chance. A big selection means they don’t get a chance,” he said. “The experience of mine is youngsters always play well the first match. The second match is different. Marcus played well in both matches so he is a special talent.”
Asked about memorable debuts, Van Gaal added: “I can imagine a lot of them. Patrick Kluivert makes the winning goal [for Ajax] in the Super Cup in the Netherlands. Xavi, fantastic against I think Valladolid [for Barcelona] and also Thomas Muller a fantastic debut. He was playing in the second team [for Bayern Munich].”
