According to MEN, Manchester United are hopeful that they’ll secure the signing of PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino sooner than later.

Various tabloids were linking the Argentine to the hot seat at Old Trafford after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

United’s displays in recent months have been abysmal, including the most recent debacle at Vicarage Road where they were smashed 4-1 to Watford.

The defeat to Claudio Ranieri’s Hornets led to an emergency meeting between the Man United board members on Saturday night, and they eventually agreed to relieve Solskjaer of his duties - a decision that was a long time coming.

Several coaches have been linked to the vacant position at the Old Trafford helm, with Michael Carrick acting as the interim manager for the meantime.

It was believed the Red Devils are keen to get an interim manager for the remainder of the 2021-22 season before employing Pochettino, who reports suggest is unhappy at Paris Saint-German.

However, the Manchester Evening News says United can hire Pochettino sooner than they initially planned.

MEN reports that PSG are asking for 10million as a compensation fee from the English giants before allowing Pochettino to leave.

Pochettino is currently living in a hotel room in Paris and his family members are still in London, where they lived during his five-year spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

It remains to be seen whether Pochettino will be the next manager after Carrick's brief spell but as things stand, it is obvious United are unwilling to give up on the campaign.
