Robin van Persie delighted Manchester United secured victory over West Ham despite Rooney`s red card

Robin van Persie hailed Manchester United’s performance after they sealed their second win of the season with a win over the Hammers at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney scored the first goal for the Red Devils before Van Persie made it 2-0 in the 22 minute And the Reds held on to win the match despite Sakho’s goal and Rooney’s red card.

Van Persie told the Manchester United website: “I think this goes even further than three points.

“It was absolutely vital to get the three points for everyone’s belief and the fans’ belief. They were right behind us and were absolutely great.

“I thought we played really well in the first half but in the second it was a completely different game because of the red card.

“At times it was a bit nerve-wracking but we did ever so well and everyone fought really hard.”
