Saka Praises Arsenal's Grit in 1-1 Draw Against Brighton

Bukayo Saka Credits the Gunners for Fighting Hard to Seal a Point Against Brighton and Preventing Defeat

Arsenal's young winger Bukayo Saka couldn't hide his disappointment after the Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Despite his frustration, Saka was full of praise for his teammates’ resilience, especially after going down to ten men in the second half.

Saka played a pivotal role in giving Arsenal the lead in the first half, providing a perfectly timed assist for Kai Havertz, who deftly lobbed Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. This assist marked Saka’s third in the Gunners' first three opening Premier League games, making him the first Arsenal player to achieve this feat since Thierry Henry.

“Of course, it’s something I can be proud of,” Saka said post-match as Arsenal.com quoted. “But it’s a bit hard to be happy with this, especially when we don’t get the win.”

The match saw its fair share of drama and controversy, particularly in the second half, when Declan Rice was sent off as the game’s momentum went in Brighton's favour. Arsenal, reduced to ten men, had to dig deep to hold on to their lead.

“I thought we had the game in our hands,” Saka explained. “Then a big decision turned the game completely, and we had to fight and dig until the end. We got a point in the end, but it’s still a bit disappointing at the same time.”

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Arsenal looked dangerous on the break and created multiple chances that could have secured all three points. Saka himself had a penalty appeal denied and came close to connecting with another dangerous cross from Havertz.

“At first it was a bit difficult for us,” Saka admitted, “but once we adjusted, we defended really well. We had a few chances in the end and could have even nicked it. A big credit to the boys, we fought hard, and we take the point and move.”
