Son Heung-min was pleased he could help Tottenham secure three points over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The South Korean's stoppage time goal gave Jose Mourinho's Lilywhites a last-gasp victory over Dean Smith's Villans at Villa Park as the visitors moved up to fifth spot in the Premier League table.

The result means Jose Mourinho's side have leapfrogged Sheffield United and are now a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who host Manchester United on Monday night.

Villa had a good start to the match and they took the lead via Toby Alderweireld's own goal. The Belgian defender was clearly upset about the situation and made amends for his error 18 minutes later by equalising with a superb strike that went into the top right corner of the Villa goal, and this was before Son made it 2-1 as he followed up his spot-kick that was initially saved by Pepe Reina.

Bjorn Engels, who cost his side the penalty because of his foul on Steven Bergwijn, responded for the hosts to make it 2-2 in what was an entertaining match in the West Midlands.

However, the north London club laughed last when Son capitalised on Engels' error to make it 3-2 with a cool finish in extra time.

"The run up to my penalty was the same v Southampton, I was waiting for the keeper to move but he stood up and it was a great save but I didn't give up and luckily I scored. I was happy to help the team," match-winner Son Heung-min told Sky Sports.

"We were 1-0 down so we showed our character and we didn't give up. I felt bad because I had a couple of chances to score but I got the winning goal which makes me very happy and I think the lads deserved the win."

Team-mate Toby Alderweireld added: "It wasn't my best performance. It was a beautiful week for me with the birth of my son but yesterday I had to travel eight hours so it was difficult - my legs were not sharp. But I'm happy to help the team with the goal, the lads helped me today."
