Souness Questions Chelsea's Decision to Sign Felix Over a Proven Goal-Scorer

Souness Criticises Chelsea for Choosing Felix Over Proven Striker

Graeme Souness has questioned Chelsea's decision to invest in Joao Felix instead of pursuing a more reliable goal-scorer, criticising the West London club's approach following their recent performances.

Souness highlighted Chelsea's struggles in their latest match, noting that despite spending over £1.2 billion, the team lacked a centre-forward who can capitalise on their chances.

"If, after spending over £1.2 billion, they had a centre-forward who could finish their chances, they possibly could have even won the game," Souness wrote in his Daily Mail column. "But City just had too much ringcraft, they rolled with the pressure and finished Chelsea off on the counter."

The former Liverpool midfielder also pointed out the issues stemming from Chelsea's large group of outcasts, which he believes is a significant problem for the club and manager Enzo Maresca.

Souness specifically critiqued the club's decision to invest in Joao Felix, who he described as "easy on the eye but gets you one goal in four."

He argued that the funds could have been better used to secure a proven striker, who scores regularly. "Maybe, instead of paying the small matter of £45 million for Joao Felix, they would have been better served saving up for a 25-goal-a-season man," Souness suggested.

Chelsea's rumoured interest in Victor Osimhen, who is valued at around £100 million, contrasts sharply with their current strategy.

"Money isn't a problem for Chelsea, is it?" Souness remarked, questioning whether the club will adjust their approach to acquiring a top goal-scorer like Osimhen, who is reportedly expected to accept a relatively modest salary compared to Chelsea's recent signings.

Souness's comments reflect growing scrutiny over Chelsea's transfer strategy and their ability to effectively address their goal-scoring needs.
