Spurs interim boss Stellini on what his players need to improve.

Cristian Stellini was not pleased with Tottenham's underwhelming draw at Everton on Monday night and he insisted that the Lilywhites must improve their overall personality.

Spurs took the lead in the 688th minute when Harry Kane stepped up to hit the net from the penalty spot after Toffees centre-back Michael Keane brought down Cristian Romero in the 18-yard box.

But late on in the match, Keane himself salvaged a point for the hosts with a world-class goal from long range to deny Tottenham Hotspur a crucial win at Goodison Park.

It was a very competitive match on Merseyside that saw both sides ending the match with 10 men as Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lucas Moura were handed their marching orders.

However, Stellini, bemoaned Spurs’ display when they had a man advantage, saying they should have controlled the game but the club’s faithful wished they had scored more goals during that period.

'We have to control the game much better’

Speaking to BBC MOTD, the Tottenham caretaker manager Stellini said: "I enjoyed the moment we started the game. We played a good game because we challenged them at the same level of strength. We play a good game, we were compact, and we know it is not easy to come here.

"We have to respect them because they are strong in some aspects like set-pieces and long balls. We did a good job, and we had some chances to score. We were unlucky not to do it. The only problem was when we play 11 vs 10. At that moment, we go 1-0 and we have to control the game much better with the ball.

"That was the expectation and the plan. But after the second red card, the game changed, and they found an amazing goal.

"It was important because with 11 men probably the game finishes differently.

"The boost changed completely. After the goal, the crowd went crazy. You need personality to play in this type of stadium, in this type of moment. We have to improve in the way we respect the opponent and when the game changes, we have to fight.

"[Personality] is something we have to improve. It's something we have to work on. It's not an easy thing to do because obviously, you need time to do it. It's a long process but we have to continue the process we had before.

"We have to respect the plan. The game is tough because the opponent has energy."

When quizzed about their chances of finishing in the top four, the Italian replied: "We are confident because we have a big squad with good players. Now we have a week to prepare for the next match. We are confident, absolutely."
