Spurs secure Alejo Veliz and Micky van de Ven’s signatures

Tottenham Hotspur has solidified their summer transfer activity with two notable acquisitions, bolstering their defensive and attacking ranks with exciting talent.

Hailing from the Netherlands Under-21 squad, Micky van de Ven, aged 22, has joined the Spurs family from Wolfsburg. The financial arrangements reflect an initial 40 million euros (£34 million), which carries the potential to ascend to an impressive 50 million euros (£43 million) inclusive of performance-based incentives.

Simultaneously, the vibrant energy of Argentina's U20 forward, Alejo Veliz, has been embraced at the London club. His transition to Tottenham comes at a reported fee of £13 million, subject to securing a work permit.

Putting pen to paper, both Van de Ven and Veliz have entered into substantial six-year contracts with Tottenham, marking a promising commitment to their respective futures with the club.

This dynamic duo becomes Tottenham's fifth and sixth signings in an eventful summer window, solidifying the club's aspirations. They follow the footsteps of England's midfield gem, James Maddison, the Italian shot-stopping prowess of Guglielmo Vicario, and the exciting Israeli winger, Manor Solomon.

Van de Ven's leadership was recently witnessed as he captained the Netherlands Under-21s during this summer's European Championship. The anticipation builds as he could potentially make his debut in the Spurs' lineup for Tuesday's game against Barcelona (19:00 BST), an intriguing final pre-season encounter.

Distinguished by his versatility, Van de Ven's skills were showcased across 33 Bundesliga appearances last season, having made a noteworthy move from Volendam to Wolfsburg for £3 million in 2021. Notably, six of his 36 appearances last season were featured in the left-back position, complementing his proficiency as a left-sided centre-back.

Alejo Veliz's journey into professional football commenced with Rosario Central in 2019. Since then, he has swiftly climbed the ranks, earning his first-team debut in July 2021. An impressive total of 62 appearances across various competitions for the Argentine Primera Division side underlines his potential.

Veliz's international prowess is evident in his nine appearances for Argentina at U20 level, during which he contributed three crucial goals. His participation in the Under-20 World Cup and the South American Under-20 Championship in 2023 further accentuates his rising star status.

As the anticipation mounts, Tottenham's fervent supporters eagerly await the inaugural Premier League fixture against Brentford, an enticing showdown set to unveil the fruits of their summer endeavours.
