Spurs' Sessegnon discusses 'very special moment' in Southampton win.

Ryan Sessegnon of Tottenham Hotspur scored his side's first goal during their Premier League opener against Southampton FC

Ryan Sessegnon was pleased to score his first Premier League goal in Tottenham’s 4-1 victory over Southampton.

Tottenham came from a goal down to get their campaign off to a flying start at the St Mary’s Stadium.

James Ward-Prowse broke the deadlock with a volley in the 12th minute but Antonio Conte's side responded nine minutes later through Sessegnon, who nodded in the equaliser from close range, and by the half-hour mark the Lilywhites were in front as Eric Dier’s flicked header found the far bottom corner of the net.

Tottenham continued to boss the game in the second half and the pressure got to the away side, who conceded an own goal when Mohammed Salisu turned Emerson Royal's cross into his net in the 61st minute.

And, Kulusevski wrapped up the win 120 seconds later to hand the Lilywhites a well-deserved win to start the 2022-23 season.

'A very special moment'

The Spurs wing-back Ryan Sessegnon told BBC Sport: "It was a very special moment - it has been a long time coming. I haven't played many games at the club for various reasons but it feels like a special moment.

"The manager has put faith in me and I've had a very good pre-season. I've had a lot of injuries and a lot of stuff hasn't gone my way but I've had a good pre-season.

"He [Antonio Conte] is very demanding but a very good coach and a very good guy. We didn't panic after going behind - we kept our heads up and kept playing how Antonio wants us to play.

"The signings have come in and gelled straight away and we have a real togetherness about this season. We haven't put any targets together as a side - we just want to keep going in a positive way and winning as many games as possible."
