England striker Harry Kane labelled Tottenham's 2-0 win against Arsenal in the north London derby as ‘fantastic’.

The Spurs skipper admitted that the display and result against the Gunners was 'exactly what we set out for’.

Heung-min Son broke the deadlock in the 13th minute with a wonderful volley from outside the box following a counter-attack.

And, Kane increased the lead at the stroke of half time as he finished off Son’s pass with a deft left-foot strike.

The second goal of the match means Kane is now the north London derby's highest goalscorer in all competitions.

Arsenal had more possession in the game at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium but lacked the cutting edge in the final third as Mikel Arteta’s Gunners difficult spell rumbles on.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the victory, Kane said: "Fantastic. Exactly what we set out for. The second half was a bit of a grind - they didn't create too many clear cut chances."

On most goals in north London derbies, the 27-year-old said of the achievement: "Nice. Great assist from Sonny. Nice to see it go in. We've had a tough few games.

The Englishman also revealed he is enjoying a great partnership with South Korea international Son.

“We're just feeling good,” he said. “Maybe we're coming into our prime. Understanding the game and each other. We're delighted with the result and the way we defended.

Quizzed about Spurs’ defending, he asserted: "It's a season where we're all pulling in the right direction. We're all defending and tackling. I'm happy to do it and win games and that's the most important thing.

When asked about the Lilywhites manager Jose Mourinho playing down their title hopes, Kane replied: "One game at a time - it's been a tough period, but a result like this can only help us."
