Across Europe this summer will perhaps the most active a transfer market that we are ever likely to see. The amount of managerial changes occurring at the top clubs is at a premium which will result in a heavy amount of player movement to go with it.
The latest move that looks set to be confirmed very soon is the appointment of European tactician Unai Emery taking over at PSG, and with Ibrahomivic already departing the club and the usual calls of Edison Cavani leaving, PSG will be the latest club looking to add a top class centre forward to their squad.
The departures of these strikers will leave voids in other teams and the replacements will be needed, it really does promise to be a heavy spending summer and will capture the imagination of football fans right across the continent.
One of the names that has been mentioned the most since the beginning of the window is Juventus and Spanish striker Alvaro Morata.
The buy-back clause in his contract makes Real Madrid first in line to make a move for Morata; however they could still sign him and sell him on for a profit, when reading the fees being linked for clubs to land the Spaniard. Morata has proven himself as a world class striker, his work inside and outside of the box makes him a real handful for defenders and is a fantastic link up man for attacks. Juventus will undoubtedly be looking to keep hold of the striker but they have been linked with players to replace Morata already, so a move away looks inevitable. With Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich been linked Morata will not be short of options.
Edison Cavani is a player that has been linked with a big money move to England for the last two or three summers now, his future might just depend on Unai Emery and if he is confirmed as the manager at PSG.
With Ibrahomivic leaving the club the main striker berth is up for grabs, the role Cavani has been looking to play ever since his arrival at the club. Arsenal and Manchester United are constantly linked with his signature but reports out of Spain say that Athletico Madrid might be taking a closer look at the developments with Cavani this summer, a move to Spain would suit Cavani’s game and could be a move to watch out for.
Manchester United has been linked with nearly every player in Europe since the appointment of Jose Mourinho but somewhat of a surprise name was Sevilla’s poacher Kevin Gameiro.
The French striker is lethal in front of goal and has a fantastic work ethic, his awareness in front of goal will certainly attract attention from clubs across Europe and no doubt with Unai Emery leaving for France he could be a player that Emery would consider bringing to PSG with him. His name isn’t as high profile but on ability he would be a great addition for most sides looking to add a striker to their team.
Gonzalo Higuaín should potentially be the striker at the top of every teams list this summer after his goal-scoring exploits during the last campaign.
His 36 goals in 35 league games last season for Napoli is certainly going to attract even more attention than the Argentina striker usually gets.
Chelsea and Liverpool look to be the two clubs in prime position to snap up the hit-man but expect the rest to be linked until Higuaín makes a decision over his future.
Pep Guardiola taking over at Manchester City has seen him already add İlkay Gündoğan from Borussia Dortmund, but his Dortmund teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be the one player that all the top sides would love to add to their squad this summer. Arsenal have been linked with the lightening quick frontman in recent times, but it looks like Guardiola and Manchester City are ready to break all sorts of record to bring him to the Etihad this summer. Real Madrid and Barcelona may just add their names to trying to get the Gabon striker should Manchester City have a bid accepted this summer.
Dutch sensation Vincent Janssen will be a name linked to many clubs this summer. 27 goals in 34 games for AZ during the last campaign is a very good return, and he now looks to be the first choice striker for the Dutch National team, not bad for 21. Arsenal has been linked with the Dutch striker but now it looks Tottenham have stepped up their interest in the striker, and the list is increasingly growing. Both Roma and AC Milan have looked interestingly at the AZ striker and Sevilla and Valencia have also been linked, a big move should be on its way for the young Dutchman.
There will be talk of other names this summer, both English forwards Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge have been linked with moves, Michy Batshuayi looks set to leave Marseille and his signature may involve a flurry of clubs, Mauro Icardi could he potentially leave Mancini and the San Siro this summer? There will be a lot of talk from now till the end of the summer but once the current European Championship is over, the flurry of moves will occur. Should be an extremely interesting summer ahead.
