Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: “We have to keep moving.”

Spurs weren’t rewarded for their bold display at Anfield.

Tottenham Hotspur were very competitive at Anfield on Sunday but eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with how his side performed against the Premier League leaders who had to fight really hard to break down Spurs’s resilient defence.

Harry Kane scored within the first minute but the Reds responded through Jordan Henderson in the 52th minute and this was before Mohamed Salah wrapped up the come-back from the penalty spot after Sadio Mane was fouled in the box by defender Serge Aurier.

“We competed, if you compare the way we fight and compete it’s okay but maybe after scoring so early, we were only focussed on defending and keeping the result,” said Pochettino as the clubs official website reported.

“In the second half it was more on the counter-attack when we conceded. They increased their level, we were unlucky we didn’t score the second goal and unlucky with the penalty that decided the game for them.

“We defended well, we were very committed and fought to try to stop them but at the end, we missed playing more football and that’s maybe why we feel disappointed.

“If you are on the pitch and it’s only about defending, it’s difficult to keep the ball and play. It was always going to be tough, but we have to keep pushing and keep working.”
