Tuchel knows his Chelsea side will have to continue winning trophies if he is to convince the Chelsea hierarchy that he is the man for the job long term.

Thomas Tuchel says he would like to see out his contract at Chelsea FC and the Bavarian also said "history tells us that it's not that easy". Last summer, Tuchel was given a two-year extension after he guided the Blues to Champions League glory, five months after his move to Stamford Bridge. However, if he does succeed and see out his current deal, he would become the longest-serving manager under Roman Abramovic’s tenure. "I think I have a contract until 2024," Tuchel said, ahead of their Premier League tie with Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday evening. "Let's stay with this and try to stay as long as this contract says. "History tells us that it's not that easy, but I feel very confident today that I can make it - I don't want to be anywhere else, this is absolutely sure. "I feel very happy, let's see what happens, but everyone knows you need results, and I'm responsible for creating an atmosphere that gives us the results."

Tuchel also confirmed Mason Mount’s absence from his starting line-up against Man City was due to tactical reasons.

‘I get them and this is absolutely normal and it’s still within Mason’s character of kindness and being polite and being respectful. So there is no harm in this, but I get the eyes, I get the look, of course,’ Tuchel said.

‘He is here to play these kinds of matches, but we were simply opting for runners. We thought we could break the line more often with Hakim as a left-footer on the left side and going for Christian on the right side because the arrival of Christian in the box is normally a bit more offensive and he is a bit more of a runner than Mason.

‘We expected the spaces more behind the last line, not in front of the back four of City. So that was the decision.’
