United spent £40m to bring Van de Beek to Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 but hasn’t been a regular starter at Old Trafford.
Lennon reckons a move to Celtic could help Van de Beek revive his career, but has concerns over Celtic's financial ability to make the move happen.
Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek must consider a move away from Old Trafford, says Celtic club legend Neil Lennon.
The Dutchman joined United in the summer of 2020 and has struggled to secure regular first-team football. He recently started training with Erik ten Hag's Red Devils following his return from an injury that kept him out for most of last season.
Reports have been linking the 26-year-old with a move away as the Premier League giants look to raise funds to do more business after the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea last week.
However, Lennon reckons Van de Beek has got to resurrect his career and he can only do so by getting minutes under his belt.
The Northern Irishman, who played for and managed Celtic told Go Radio Football Show when quizzed whether a move to Celtic will help the 26-year-old: "Possibly - his career has sort of stalled a bit. He was outstanding for Ajax the season they got to the semi-finals of the Champions League in that really good young Ajax team. He went to United and it didn't work out and he went on loan to Everton and that didn't work out either. So he needs a kickstart and maybe Celtic is that place for him.
"He's certainly shown he's got the pedigree and you never lose it, you just sometimes lose your confidence or your hunger and lose your way a little bit. Players of that calibre just need a restart and maybe he's thinking Celtic might be that place to go but I mean, there's a lot of work to be done in a deal involving that.
"He'll be on huge money, let's not beat around the bush here. Realistically, if you're talking about [Scott] McTominay, [Kieran] Tierney or Van de Beek, it'll probably be a loan and Celtic making a contribution towards the wages."
As things stand, Van de Beek is currently behind the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and new signing Mason Mount in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
