Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal expects Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea to sign a new contract and stay at Old Trafford.
The Reds’ No 1 goalkeeper has 18 months left on his current contract with United and has been linked with a return move to Spain, with Real Madrid being one of the clubs interested in the 24-year-old.
And the Red Devils boss says the signing of Victor Valdes shouldn’t be an issue and expects De Gea to remain at the club.
"I think there is no problem for (De Gea) to sign," Van Gaal said. "When you are a (regular) player, then probably you are the best, and then the manager is very happy that a player that is fixed in the line-up will stay.
Valdes signed an 18-month contract with the club and Van Gaal says the 32-year old should be motivated to becoming the No 1 goalkeeper at United.
"Nobody is happy to be No 2 and he has to have ambition to beat David De Gea - but it shall be very hard for him," said Van Gaal.
"David de Gea has developed himself in the six months that I've been here very much. I'm very pleased with his development."
