Van Gaal defends Di Maria ahead of Man Utd’s trip to Newcastle.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal said his summer signing Angel di Maria has no issue and is supporting the Reds winger to come good for United.
The former Real Madrid winger was subbed at half-time in their 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday after a below par performance.
However, Van Gaal insists he has no problem with Di Maria who has failed to find consistency after his impressive start to the campaign and backs the 27-year-old to get better in the next few weeks.
“Every player can have that kind of match – Di Maria is not the only player who has suffered a bad day,” he told his news conference on Tuesday afternoon.
“He can be the best player in the world in the next match so I think everything is going well. He has trained very well and I don’t think there is any problem.”
The United boss also reckons it takes time for some players to adapt to the style of the Premier League.
He added: “I have already explained that the higher rhythm of the Premier League is one of the most important aspects. But he also has to adapt to a new culture, new environment and that is not always easy.”
