Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has heaped praise on Timothy Fosu-Mensah for following their 1-0 triumph over Watford on Wednesday night.
The 18-year-old youngster made his first start for the Red Devils against the Hornets yesterday, after coming off the bench in United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday to make his senior debut.
However, the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach was overly impressed with Fosu-Mensah’s display against Quique Sánchez Flores' side.
Speaking to United’s official website after the game, Van Gaal said: “Timothy has saved us three times, I think, because of his speed.
“So I was very pleased that he was on the pitch. He wanted to be changed early in the second half [because he picked up a knock] but I let him stay on because he always closed the door for us.
“I think the youngsters have given us a lot of spirit and now, when you see the dressing room full of joy with all the players laughing, it’s beautiful to see.”
United won Watford at Old Trafford thanks to Juan Mata’s second-half free-kick.
