Chris Smalling was pleased with the 'intensity' his Manchester United team-mates applied in their UEFA Champions League clash against Valencia on Tuesday evening as the Red Devils were held to a draw.
The England international spoke to MUTV straight after the match as he hopes they can perform better in this weekend's Premier League fixture against Newcastle United.
“I think the second half was better,”Smalling said. “I feel there was more intensity and I felt that we deserved a goal, especially with the second-half performance. But, I think you could tell as we walked off the pitch that we were disappointed, because we knew how much three points would have set us up in the group.
”I think we grew stronger and stronger as the game went on,“ he added. ”I think we need to make sure that we follow that up on Saturday, because we will come up against a team who are going to be equally as hard to break down and we need that intensity and tempo in order to do that.“
