Perez hit a superb Champions League hat-trick for Arsenal against FC Basel at St. Jakob-Park
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hailed Lucas Perez after the striker scored a hat-trick in their 4-1 Champions League win over Basel.
Wenger claims Perez, who moved from Deportivo La Coruna to the Emirates in the summer for a £17.1m fee, can smell the goal" after his three goals against Basel on Tuesday night.
Speaking to BT Sport after Arsenal's group-topping victory, Wenger said as the Mirror reported: "I thought Ludogorets were a good side - they made a great result that helps us top the group, which was what we wanted
"We did the job in a convincing way, we were mobile and overall had a committed performance.
"It is difficult to know but you feel a bit less guilty if you have a bad draw if first than second - we have done our job and let's see what happens.
"I think Perez took advantage of the fact we created good chances - he is a goalscorer you know, he has shown tonight he has a good smell for the goal."
