We are not a selfish team, says Germany striker Werner.

Chelsea 3-0 Rennes

Chelsea forward Timo Werner is happy he isn’t playing in a “selfish team”.

The Blues continued their fine form as they thrashed Ligue 1 club Rennes 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night, thanks to Timo Werner’s double from the penalty spot and Tammy Abraham’s strike in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

Werner became the first German to score two penalties in a single European Cup/Champions League match since Lothar Matthaus for Bayern Munich v Real Madrid in April 1987.

And, following the victory in west London, the Germany international who joined the Premier League side from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in the previous transfer window, told BT Sport: "We had a very good game today. The two penalties right. We got with 2-0 at half time, very good.

“The red card. Also good for me is we had one more player in the pitch and could control it from behind.

"Before the game the manager said when there is a penalty I should take it. Two today is crazy, not all days. I take it and good goals for a striker but hopefully I can go on like this.

"I am happy, I am happy Jorginho is cool with it. It is another point that speaks for our team, we are not selfish. We all go in one direction which is good.

"Now we want to win the group."
