Liverpool conceded two goals within seven minutes at Upton Park, with goals from Winston Reid and Diafro Sakho. Raheem Sterling gave the Reds a lifeline with a low finish past Hammers goal keeper Adrian before half-time.
All in all, Liverpool couldn’t get an equaliser and a mistake from Mamadou Sakho allowed Morgan Amalfitano to make it 3-1 in the 88th minute as the Hammers grabbed the 3 points.
The Liverpool boss told BBC Sport: “Overall we never showed the composure that is related to this team. We didn’t start well.”
“It was disappointing. We knew this would be a tough game but we were 2-0 down before we started. I thought we reacted well but we were risking the game at the end and unfortunately for us it was a day of too many mistakes.
“We’re nowhere near the levels we expect to be at. The expectancy is raised for us after the last few seasons but at this moment in time we are not there. We will continue to work hard. We’ll look to bounce back.”
Brenden Rodgers side will be desperate for a win in their next game after losing three Premier league games already this season.
