Amorim Applauds Cunha and Mbeumo Despite Narrow Loss at Old Trafford

Man Utd Head Coach Amorim Heaps Praise on Cunha and Mbeumo

Ruben Amorim emerged from Old Trafford with mixed emotions after Manchester United fell narrowly to Arsenal, yet the Portuguese manager was quick to highlight the bright spots among his squad.

While the final scoreline left little to celebrate, Amorim’s focus was firmly on the performances of his attacking duo, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, whose contributions impressed even in defeat.

Addressing the media, Amorim reflected on the match with measured admiration. “We were more aggressive and brave. In certain moments, I think Bryan and Cunha helped a lot,” he noted. The manager emphasised that his team adhered to their tactical blueprint despite the charged atmosphere, a discipline he believes will pay dividends in future fixtures.

“We stuck to the plan even when the stadium was nervous, we continued to play the way we played, and that will help us in the future,” Amorim added, underscoring the maturity of his squad under pressure.

The spotlight turned to Cunha and Mbeumo, whose fluidity and tactical awareness drew praise. Amorim singled out their natural fit in the team’s structure, noting, “Everybody can understand they are very good players for that position. It didn't need a lot of work to feel that is their position.”

The versatility of his forward options also caught the manager’s eye, as he explained the strategic switch in the first half: Cunha was substituted to contend with United’s physically imposing centre-backs, making way for Sesko, a different type of attacking threat. “That is important for me, that we have players to play different games,” he added, highlighting the squad depth he is cultivating.

Despite the disappointment of defeat, Amorim remained optimistic about the season ahead. He acknowledged the need for refinement in defending set pieces but stressed the positive elements, particularly the energy and adaptability displayed by Cunha and Mbeumo.

“I am really proud of my players,” he said, reinforcing his belief that the team’s mentality and talent will eventually yield results.
