Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager to win nine of his first 10 games in charge (L1), marking an impressive start to his tenure at Anfield. This achievement also marks the third time in the club’s history that they’ve begun a season with such dominance, previously doing so in 1961-62 and 1990-91. Their latest victory came in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, extending their winning streak to six across all competitions.
Diogo Jota’s first-half goal, capitalising on a well-placed cross from Cody Gakpo and poor defending by Palace, secured the win. However, the match wasn’t without its setbacks.
Liverpool's star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, appeared to suffer a hamstring injury late in the game after making a clearance. He was substituted for debutant Vitezslav Jaros, who stepped in for the final 10 minutes to help preserve the clean sheet.
While Liverpool's defence has tightened under Slot, ensuring their strong start, Palace found themselves winless after seven games and remain in the relegation zone. The Eagles had an early goal disallowed due to offside and struggled for much of the first half. However, they showed improvement after the break, particularly following the introduction of Jean-Philippe Mateta, and forced several key saves from Alisson.
Palace pushed for a late equaliser, with Virgil van Dijk's challenge on Marc Guehi inside the box sparking calls for a penalty, but VAR did not intervene. Despite their second-half efforts, Palace was unable to break through, leaving them still searching for their first league win of the season.
For Liverpool, the concern now lies with Alisson’s injury, as his absence could prove challenging in the coming weeks. Nonetheless, Slot’s men sit four points clear at the top of the table, with the manager's tactical brilliance continuing to power their title bid. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, will need to regroup during the international break as they face a tough run of fixtures ahead.
