Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta couldn't hide his joy as his Gunners delivered a commanding performance against PSG, controlling the match with their aggression and physicality.
Kai Havertz’s header from a Leandro Trossard cross and Bukayo Saka's free-kick secured a 2-0 lead at the Emirates on Tuesday night. PSG showed resilience in the second half but couldn't break through. Joao Neves hit the bar and David Raya made a crucial save from Lee Kang-In.
Mikel Arteta also introduced new signing Mikel Merino for his debut. Arsenal's dominance and ruthlessness suggest they have the qualities to contend for the Champions League title.
Speaking to Amazon Prime Arteta said: "Really, really happy with the performance. We played an opponent that has a lot of personality, is really difficult to deal with when you don't have the ball.
"The first half was very dominant and we created a lot of chances and then the second half was a different story.
"We suffered much more than we should have done. The Champions League brings different demands but I think we handled it really well."
When asked about Kai Havertz's form which has seen him score 6 goals on the bounce at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta replied: "He has been unbelievable. His football brain, the way he understands space, his timing, he brings people together. His work ethic is incredible and now he is a real threat around the box. He is one of our main players at the moment."
