Caicedo Eyes New Heights with Chelsea Ahead of 2025-26 Season
Moises Caicedo’s rise over the past year has been nothing short of transformative – for himself and Chelsea. Now, after lifting trophies, winning individual honours, and winning the hearts of supporters from London to his native Ecuador, the 23-year-old is setting his sights even higher.
The end of last season painted the picture of a player in full bloom. Voted both Chelsea Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year, Caicedo capped his campaign by scoring in the Conference League final and earning recognition as the third-best player at the Club World Cup.
For a midfielder whose influence spans both ends of the pitch, it was the ultimate reward for relentless work. When he returned home for the summer, the reception was nothing short of euphoric.
Streets in Ecuador were filled with well-wishers eager to share in his success. “People stopped me in the street, it was crazy,” Caicedo told chelseafc.com. “They were happy to see me – I could see it on their faces. My family were proud, and I enjoyed being there a lot.”
But the celebrations have given way to renewed determination. Back at Cobham, Caicedo is already plotting how to push his game further.
Manager Enzo Maresca has been vocal about the difference the Ecuadorian makes to his team, a sentiment Caicedo says fuels his drive. “I appreciate that, and it’s a motivation for me. It’s why I train every day even harder.”
Settling for last season’s level is not in his nature. “For sure I am going to try and play even better than last season,” he said. “I have hunger for more. I have always said I don’t have limits; the sky is the limit. I am going to work hard to keep achieving a lot of things for this amazing club.”
There is also a new challenge ahead that excites him: the Champions League. This will be his first taste of Europe’s most prestigious club competition, and the anticipation is palpable.
“It’s a dream come true,” he admitted. “It’s an amazing feeling when you are watching on TV. You can feel it is different. Everybody in the whole world is watching you. It’s another level, and now we are there, we want to do really well.”
With his unyielding work ethic, hunger to improve, and an eye on the biggest stages, Caicedo is poised not just to meet the demands of the new season, but to redefine them.
