Erling Haaland Feels Fresh: Striker Reflects on Strong Start to Season

Erling Haaland’s impressive early-season form continued as he netted his 11th hat-trick for Manchester City, leading the team to a 3-1 victory over West Ham United. Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the Norwegian striker emphasised his renewed energy and freshness, attributes he believes are key to his strong performances.

“Three points is the most important thing, so I'm happy,” Haaland said. “I feel good, I feel energised. I had a long vacation and pre-season. I feel good. The years I've been here have been really fast. Now I've got some rest in my body and my feet. Now I'm ready for more.”

Haaland’s comments shed light on the physical and mental demands of a long football season. “Only footballers know how important it is to have a break,” he explained. “You need to calm your body and mind down because it's a long season. It's not as easy as people think. I feel fresh, and that's the most important thing.”

Reflecting on his hat-trick, Haaland singled out his second goal as a particular highlight. “I really like the second goal,” he said. “I like all of them, but the second one was lovely. A lovely ball from Rico [Lewis] and a perfect first touch. Top finish. It's good to get a little bit of power out of my body.”

The forward, known for his exceptional goal-scoring instincts, also spoke about his natural movement that often leaves him in prime positions to score. “This is what I've been doing my whole life with this movement,” he noted. “Normally, we don't meet these types of teams and they drop a lot more. West Ham needed a goal and the line was higher. It was a natural thing for me, and I don't go offside. I haven't practiced this for many years.”

Haaland’s commitment to maintaining his physical and mental freshness appears to be paying off, with his early-season form serving as a testament to his preparation. “I feel more refreshed, more energised,” he said. “When you do that, you can practice some things you want to get better at outside of training. I feel good, and I'm happy.”

With Manchester City’s perfect start to the season—three games, nine points—Haaland remains focused on the road ahead. “Three games, nine points, it's a great start. Let's not get too far ahead because there are potentially 70 more games this season. Let's take it game by game.”

As City sit atop the Premier League table, Haaland’s rejuvenation will be vital for Pep Guardiola’s side in their quest for a fifth consecutive league title.
