Ex-Spurs and Liverpool star's thoughts on De Jong and Raheem Sterling.

Redknapp’s thoughts on De Jong and Raheem Sterling.

Redknapp: Frenkie De Jong has "all the attributes" to shine for Man United at Old Trafford, and Sterling is "great" for Chelsea FC.

Former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has lauded Frenkie De Jong, saying the Netherlands international is among the top three midfielders in the world.

The ex-England international is convinced the Dutchman will be an “unbelievable signing” for new Man United boss Erik Ten Hag.

According to reports in Spain and England, United have agreed to a £63.5m deal with Barcelona for De Jong, but there is still no guarantee the move will materialise because the 25-year-old is locked in a contract dispute with the LaLiga club.

The contractual dispute is based on deferred payments that were included in the midfielder's new four-year deal, which only became active on the 1st of July.

All in all, only time will tell if the Dutchman will end up at Old Trafford.

"I put him in the top two or three midfield players in the world," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "He’s an unbelievable signing.

"He went to Barcelona and it didn’t quite work out for a number of reasons but it doesn’t mean he’s not an incredible player. He’s young and I’m sure having worked so closely with the manager at Ajax, that system he’ll play, just in front of the back four, and he’ll be the sort of player who can make things happen.

"He can drive with the ball he’s so creative with his passing, he's got real pace as well. I think he’s going to be an amazing signing for them. I’m really excited for the Premier League. I think Haaland and De Jong are two of the best signings we’ve seen for a long time, I genuinely believe that.

"He has all the attributes you want to play midfield. He can cover ground, skillful, great passer... I’ve been really impressed with him. It’s not just a big opportunity for him, it’s a great signing for Man Utd."

Sterling will bring his goals and experience to Chelsea.

Speaking of great signings, Chelsea secured the services of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City for £47.5m on Wednesday, a transfer deal Redknapp sees as good business for the player and the club.

"Sterling is a great signing," said Redknapp. "Guaranteed goals. I don’t think in terms of the price it’s an extortionate amount, it feels a really good signing for Chelsea. He’s a leader.

"I was surprised Man City let him go to such a close rival and Pep Guardiola obviously feels it wasn’t a problem to do it but you’re going to enhance another team.

"Sterling probably thought he wasn’t going to get games at Man City, now they’ve signed Haaland. It feels like a good move all round.

"He gets in at the back post, scores goals, he's hungry for goals, and with the likes of Mason Mount around him, he’s going to add tremendous experience to that squad."
