Former Chelsea FC left-back Ashley Cole has urged the European champions to keep hold on Germany international Antonio Rudiger.

The Blues centre-back Rudiger scored the only goal that helped Thomas Tuchel’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 (3-0 on aggregate) to progress to the final of the Carabao Cup.

At this point in time, Rudiger is a vital member of the Chelsea team but his future at the club remains unclear as his current deal is set to expire in the summer.

With six months left on his contract, Rudiger has the opportunity to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs and it is believed his situation at Stamford Bridge is being monitored by several European giants, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

However, Cole insists Chelsea must find a way to make the 28-year-old put pen to paper on a new contract.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the ex-England full-back Cole, who won seven trophies at Chelsea, including three Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a League Cup, said: 'Rudiger was brilliant. You can't lose top, top key players in this dressing room. I think he can do everything.

'He can play out from the back, he can start attacks, he doesn't like to be beat one v one, so he puts his body on the line. He's becoming a real leader. He's temperamental at times.'

Jamie Redknapp added: 'His defending for the Hojbjerg incident was poor, that could have cost his team, but he's a player they have to keep.

‘I don't know what the situation is. He's going to be courted by all the top teams in world football.'
