Former Liverpool Striker Impressed with Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah
Former Liverpool forward Neil Mellor could not hide his admiration for Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah following their decisive contributions in the Reds’ thrilling 4-2 win over Bournemouth at Anfield.
Mellor, reflecting on the contest, was struck by Chiesa’s intelligence and timing when the Italian produced a crucial late strike to tilt the game Liverpool’s way.
The summer arrival calmly positioned himself away from the physical battle in the box, and when the loose ball fell kindly, he dispatched it in clinical fashion to make it 3-2.
“It’s a wonderful finish,” Mellor remarked as Liverpool's official site published, highlighting the awareness shown by Chiesa in reading the situation. “He doesn’t need to get involved in the challenge; he simply waits in the right space, and the ball drops perfectly for him. What a moment and what a finish.”
While Chiesa’s volley earned plenty of attention, Mellor was equally effusive about Salah’s stoppage-time effort that sealed the victory. The Egyptian’s determination and energy summed up why he continues to be such an influential figure for Liverpool.
“What impressed me was the sheer desire,” Mellor explained. “He covers so much ground, makes a hopeful ball into his own, and then finds the space to score. That’s outstanding commitment and quality rolled into one.”
Salah’s goal ensured he extended his reputation for delivering on opening weekends, while also underlining his ongoing importance in an evolving Liverpool side under Arne Slot.
Between Chiesa’s debut impact and Salah’s relentless drive, Mellor suggested the duo could form a vital axis in the champions’ bid for another strong campaign.

While Neil Mellor was blown away by Salah and Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, 23, who joined the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt, was absolutely delighted to hear the Anfield crowd sing his praises.
The Frenchman scored on his debut in the Community Shield at Wembley and opened the scoring against the Cherries on Merseyside.
"I heard the song when I was [in the] corner. It was amazing," he said. "I'm very grateful, and I want to hear it louder next time! It was fun. I've been a bit lucky with the touch. I tried to meg the defender, but the ball came back, and then I was alone.
"The celebration [was] for Diogo [Jota] because I think it was an important day for him and his family and for the crowd. Obviously, we were celebrating him."
