Loftus-Cheek focussing solely on Chelsea amid Qatar World Cup hopes.

Updated: Dec 20, 2022

Versatile Blues midfielder Loftus-Cheek insists that he is focussing solely on Chelsea amid World Cup hopes.

England midfielder says he isn’t thinking about the World Cup just yet as he is paying attention to Chelsea.

Midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has not hidden his desire to be part of Gareth Southgate's Three Lions side to go to the World Cup later this year, adding that it would be ‘amazing' to be in Qatar.

Though, the 26-year-old also stated that his primary focus at the moment is to continue plying his trade at Stamford Bridge to help Chelsea win games.

The Chelsea Academy graduate - who has been impressive so far this season and has shown his versatility on the pitch, playing as a right wing-back on occasions - was part of the England setup that finished in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

Despite saying he mind is fixated on issues concerning Chelsea alone, he hasn't shied away from letting the World know he will be delighted to get the nod again from Southgate in a few weeks.

‘It would be amazing to go to the World Cup and it would mean a lot to me personally,’ Ruben told reporters recently as Chelseafc.com quoted.

‘As a player going to the 2018 World Cup, you see your trajectory only going one way and you hope to be at the next World Cup if everything goes well.

‘A lot has happened in the time since then and I’ve come a long way, with the journey I’ve been on with my injuries and such.

‘Right now, I'm grateful I'm fit and playing consistently. That's all I can ask for and if I go (to the World Cup), it would mean the world.

‘It’s something that's not at the forefront of my mind and my only focus right now is doing my best for Chelsea and helping us kick on with good results.

‘We've got some big games coming up and it would be selfish to think of my personal aspirations over the club's at the moment.’
