Man Utd New Signing Bryan Mbeumo Lauds Former Teammate Ollie Watkins

Mbeumo: "Watkins Is the Striker Every Winger Dreams Of"

New Manchester United signing Bryan Mbeumo has only arrived at Old Trafford, but he's already dropped a glowing endorsement for one of the club’s reported transfer targets, Ollie Watkins.

Speaking with Rio Ferdinand on the latest episode of Rio Ferdinand Presents, the 25-year-old opened up about a range of topics, including United’s summer rebuild, settling into the squad, and, notably, his admiration for Watkins, whom he played alongside at Brentford.

“He’s really complete,” Mbeumo said. “He can drop deep or run in behind. For wingers like me, that’s gold. He creates space, combines well, just a striker you love playing with.”

With United still assessing their striker options, Watkins is believed to be high on the shortlist, alongside RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. But unlike the Slovenian, the Aston Villa man already has Premier League pedigree, something that Mbeumo clearly values.

Watkins’ record speaks for itself. With 17 goals and 14 assists across all competitions last season, he’s become a standout performer for Villa and a mainstay in the England setup.

Despite Villa’s resistance to selling, reports suggest United believe a £45 million offer could open the door, and Mbeumo’s backing might only strengthen that interest.

Mbeumo’s insight comes as the Red Devils continue reshaping their frontline under Ruben Amorim, having already added Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo himself for a combined £127.5 million.

But the hunt for a central striker remains, and with Mbeumo publicly praising Watkins’ style, it’s clear who he’d like lining up ahead of him this season.
