Spurs boss Antonio Conte: “It was a good win” over Brentford.

Spurs played Brentford for the first time in the league since 1949 and the Lilywhites sealed a brilliant win to keep pace in Premier League top four race.

Antonio Conte was pleased his Premier League start as Tottenham Hotspur manager continued with a win as the Lilywhites secured an elegant 2-0 win over Brentford. The homeside had a good start to the game as a 12th-minute own goal from Brentford right wing-back Sergi Canos gave the hosts the lead. Then, Son Heung-min doubled the lead as the South Korean finished off Sergio Reguilon's cross following a superb counter-attack in the second half. The victory ensures Spurs are in touch with the top-four and Conte's team sit in the sixth spot in the league table - two points behind fourth placed West Ham.

'Important win for our confidence'

The Italian told BBC Sport: "It was a good win. To get three points today was very important. If you are not prepared to play against Brentford you can suffer. We played a good game with the right intensity. We had many chances to improve the result but we have to be satisfied with the performance.

“The points are important for the confidence of our fans and for ourselves and to believe in the work that we are doing every day.

"After four weeks I can only speak well about the players. They are showing great will, commitment and desire. It is important to concentrate on the league. We can enjoy the win till midnight, but one second after midnight we need to start thinking about the difficult game on Sunday. We need to get three points because that is only way to stay close to the high part of the table. "I am not worried about Harry Kane. He played a really good game. He had chances to score, but the goalkeeper was very good. He was in every offensive situation and the point of reference.

“To have a player like this and to play with his commitment, desire and passion makes me very happy with his performance. It doesn't matter if he scores as long as he plays in this way - I am delighted. Tottenham in the first thing we need to think about."

'Skipp can become a top midfielder'

Conte also lauded midfielder Oliver Skipp, saying he can become a top midfielder: "He has to improve with the ball. Without the ball he works very, very hard. In one month I have seen a lot of improvement from Skippy. He could become a top midfielder but he has to continue to work. He has this will and desire to become a top player for the future at Tottenham."

'Kane will score a lot of goals'

It was another frustrating night for England captain Harry Kane, who has scored one Premier League goal so far this season. However, Conte insists that he is "not worried" about Kane's lack of goals.

"He played a really good game and had chances to score, but the goalkeeper was very good,” the ex-Inter Milan coach said.

"To have a player like this and to play with his commitment, desire and passion makes me very happy with his performance.

"He doesn't care if he scores or doesn't score - if he plays in this way I am happy and delighted. Tottenham is the first thing we need to think about. I'm sure Harry will score a lot of goals."
