Blues Land Exciting Young Winger From Borussia Dortmund In £52m Deal

Chelsea have added another name to their growing list of summer signings, sealing a deal for Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a move worth £48.5 million upfront, with an extra £3.5 million in potential add-ons.

The 20-year-old England U21 international, who originally came through Manchester City's youth ranks, has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues club after reaching an agreement with Dortmund a few days ago.

Gittens is expected to link up with the squad after the Club World Cup, marking the beginning of what fans hope will be a thrilling chapter in west London.

“It feels amazing to join such a big club like Chelsea,” Gittens said. “This is a massive step in my career, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Gittens spent four years in Germany after making the switch to Dortmund in 2020. In that time, he clocked up 107 appearances, scoring 17 goals and providing 14 assists, solid numbers for a winger still in the early stages of his professional journey.

While the transfer negotiations were reportedly tense at times, Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl acknowledged that the outcome suited all parties.

“Jamie is an outstanding player who gave us a lot of joy,” Kehl said. “He’s ready for the next step, and we wish him nothing but success at Chelsea.”

Gittens joins a flurry of fresh faces at Stamford Bridge, including Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr, who are all part of the club’s wider strategy to build a young, dynamic core under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their newest recruit in action, but there’s no doubt that Gittens arrives with a glowing reputation and the hunger to make his mark. Now, it’s up to him to turn his potential into Premier League impact.
